About Brake

Brake is a road safety charity and we exist for a simple reason - because every 30 seconds someone, somewhere in the world, is killed in a road crash.

We believe that the misery of road deaths and injuries, and the pollution of our planet by vehicles, is a shameful epidemic that must end. Brake works tirelessly to stop the carnage and support the victims.

Brake Helpline

The Brake helpline can be reached on 0808 8000 401 or by emailing helpline@brake.org.uk. The helpline is open 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday (opening times can occasionally vary due to staff training.) The helpline is for anyone who has been bereaved or seriously injured in a crash or their carers, whether the crash happened recently or a long time ago. It is also for professionals, such as police officers or health workers, who need information about how to help people affected by a crash. Our helpline officers are paid professionals, experienced in supporting people who have suffered a dreadful experience.

Online Support Guides

Brake produces a range of guides for people bereaved or seriously injured in a road crash. If you have been bereaved then the police are required to give you printed copies of Brake guides for adults and children. If you have not received these, call our helpline on 0800 8000 401 for free copies. To read copies of these, please      click here
